Improvement Program for Community Daycare Teachers

The main role of the Stimulus Institute has been to provide training for educators working in community institutions for early childhood education.

To this end, we created the Program for the Improvement of Community Nursery Educators (PAECC), which over the course of 10 years has already conducted 12 courses with around 250 students, impacting more than 25 thousand children in different municipalities in the State of Rio de Janeiro, as Teresópolis, Nova Iguaçu, Queimados, Niterói and the city of Rio de Janeiro.

This program – totally free – was born from the realization that one of the chronic problems of Day Care Centers and Pre-schools maintained by vulnerable communities is the difficulty of recruiting, maintaining and motivating the educators responsible for the children, which leads to the risk of reduction the quality of your service.

The courses are for improvement, and not for training, which allows us, despite observing the government’s educational guidelines (BNCC), to have independence of performance with the Education Departments.

The choice of daycare centers and locations to be benefited is based on previous diagnoses. The 12th class is currently underway in Niterói, a metropolitan region in Rio de Janeiro.

Our basic course consists of 80 hours of classroom, theoretical / practical, and pedagogical workshops, which are complemented by distance learning activities. The meetings are biweekly, on Saturday mornings (so as not to interrupt the normal daycare hours), and are held on a rotation basis at the facilities of the participating daycare centers, which contributes to the exchange of practices and experiences.

The students, about 30 per class, from 4 to 5 daycare centers in the same region, are educators, managers and assistants in daycare centers selected from previous diagnoses and their enrollments take into account the interest in progressing in the profession and the potential to transmit knowledge to their peers.

The contents, while respecting the government’s educational guidelines (BNCC), take into account the socio-economic reality of the students and daycare centers where they work, and are therefore flexible from class to class.
